Avon Wholesale Supply, Inc. was established in 1984 in Avon, CT.

In our early days, we purchased dimensional lumber and other building materials from West Coast mills and sold them to lumberyards and millwork houses throughout Connecticut and Western Massachusetts. In addition, the company stocked and machined Weyerhaeuser architectural wood doors.

In 1993, we expanded when we purchased the real estate of the former WG Glenney Company in Manchester, CT. Since then, we have operated a rail reload at the rear of that parcel on the Connecticut Southern Railroad. The remainder of the property, which includes a barbershop, several apartments, a cabinet showroom and a distributor, are leased to others.

In 1998, we purchased the real estate of the former B.D. Nims Lumber Company in West Springfield, MA. This site offered us the ability to receive rail freight on CSX’s main Chicago to Boston line. As demand softened during the recent recession, the need for this rail reload has lessened.

Current management assumed leadership of our company in 2010 and was led by Ann Sanford, President. Ann has been associated with the building materials supply business since the 1970’s and has attended countless seminars, shows, and industry events including the Northeastern Retail Lumber Dealers annual convention. Ann retired in 2020 and today the company is led by Emily and Elizabeth Sanford, Liz grew up with a great deal of exposure to the railroad industry which gives her natural talents to guide the company in its transportation and logistics strategy. She has also had many years of experience in instructing and teaching skills and directs the company’s educational initiatives.

In May 2013, we consolidated and expanded our Manchester and West Springfield locations into the site of the former G.J. Frechette Lumber in Farmington, CT. This new location is larger than the space utilized at the prior two and positions us for growth. We will continue to run our rail reload in Manchester, CT.

Avon Wholesale Supply continues to stock architectural wood doors and has the ability to machine them for hardware in our WHI certified shop. We also distribute dimensional lumber, engineered wood, sheathing products and GAF roof shingles. Our Farmington headquarters is also home to a large selection of bluestone and hardscape products.
